1. Cut the bottom stems off of the artichokes so they sit upright on your cutting board.
2. Cut off the top quarter of the artichoke.
3. Peel off the tough, outer ring of leaves.
4. Boil 2-3 inches of water in a big pot and insert steaming rack.
5. Place artichokes in pot and cover tightly with lid.
5. Steam artichokes for 30-40 minutes, or until the outer leaves easily pull off.
6. Peel leaves off, dunk into a dipping sauce of your choice and scrape artichoke meat off with your teeth.
7. Enjoy!

That is one of my very favorite foods! My parents used to make them all the time when I was a kid – and it was so special to get to eat the heart. Mmmm, you’ve got me wanting one now!
Thanks for the directions!! I’ve been wondering what the best way to steam an artichoke was. I love artichokes but have never been brave enough to try to cook them myself. Now I definitely will. That seems easy enough to do!
Thanks for the tutorial! I’ve always wondered how you’re supposed to prepare them–they look so intimidating! I saved this and plan on making artichokes soon
I love artichokes, and we always get gorgeous ones in at the farmers’ market here! For some reason I’m always intimidated to cook them though :/
